Description
Original GERSTNER & Sons Model 052 11 Drawer Oak Chest MACHINIST Mechanic's TOOLBOXUse as a functional toolbox or as a collectible- Made in Dayton Ohio in the 1940s Large edition measuring 26x16x9 inches.
Tool Chest features 11 tray drawers plus a lift up lid deeper compartment. The pull out trays have the original tin bottoms in nice shape, green felt is gone from those, and the felt that is present- has wear on the lift up hinged top compartment. Mirror is gone from compartment.
Superbly constructed from Oak wood made to last with tongue in groove joining for the seams and an unique drop down pin latch design that keeps front panel in place until the latches are released- keeping the pull out drawers secured inside until you want to use them. Front panel neatly slides back under the trays. 5 brass original latches. No key, but some previous owner has added a hasp to the left side to allow for locking
In overall great shape- but expect signs of years of aging, patina and wear consistent with a toolbox that was used to fix things. Every vintage toolbox has a history- and this one has decades of usefulness behind it, and with the quality built to last construction, decades ahead.
Currently, as a vintage item, this is fully functional as a toolbox, but could also have a great use as a primitive jewelry chest or artist case or general storage- with all the compartments and trays-
It is VERY heavy ...leather wrapped handle is fully attached and functional.
